We’ve travelled round the world these past weeks featuring Moroccan, German, of course to the country that owns the hip-hop culture itself – New York City (Hip hop is a subculture and art movement developed in the Bronx in New York City just so you know). So we gonna be talking most featured artists Nigeria! What does featuring mean in music business?
Featuring/featuring is a form of collaboration which is not new as far as music is concerned. Y’all have heard and even seen in video music terms such as: feature, collabs, “versus”, and or “with”. Haven’t you? As matter of fact, Hip-hop is really collaborating; feature could mean an artist singing a verse on a song owned by another artist. An artist could feature another artist for publicity reasons. Featuring can happen either from a mainstream or any relatively artist who also happens to be the rave of the moment. Dr. Dre put then-unknown Snoop Dogg on a track in 1992 and that helped Snoop’s career launch.
that sort of made musicians to even team up nonstop. We know some of our mainstream artists in naija right now talking Davido, Wizkid, Tubaba, Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, etc who have been giving newbie artists the chance for feature.
D’banj’s Issa Banger ft Slimcase and Mr Real
They are both individual artists who have been jointly featured on songs which make/made music lovers think they are a group- ‘With Oshozondi’ and ‘Legbegbe’: Slimcase and Real kicked off the year 2018 with the dance Shaku Shaku’ which still in trend or trended majorly up until after the first half this year. They are leaders of the dance ‘Shaku Shaku’ back in late 2017. It’s a viral dance such that both mainstream and newbie artist have been making music around that vibe.
You can hardly tell whether Dbanj is the owner of that song or. A feature artist is supposed to sing limited verses in my opinion. An artist is featured in a song is not meant to take it over, but merely contribute. That’s why sometimes you see them in music videos dancing and making some gesticulations after dropping their part which could be intermittent and sing the hook together with the main artist.
A featured artist does not sing as much as the main artist in the particular song they are featured in. Although there are instances where this doesn’t happen for some unknown improper reason. Should we say Dbanj featured them to promote them as newer and less established artist. Well it’s a strategy done vice versa to gain music lovers’ attention.

Hopefully, the shakushaku vibe both artists created has to stay (remember Olamide’s shakitibobo and the likes soon faded)
NO 3: Kizz Daniel’s latest collaboration.
Kizz Daniel has had a fantastic 2018 so far with a quite number of collaborations doing stuff in his own terms since FlyBoy Inc. He’s got collaboration from Wizkid to Omawumi to DJ Spinall. He’s featured DJ Neptune in ‘Wait’, DJ Spinall in ‘Baba’, CDQ with ‘Gbayi’, Harrysong in ‘Selense’, Seyi Shay with ‘Surrender’ and Omawumi’s ‘Me Ke’
NO 2 Duncan Mighty ft Tiwa Savage Lova Lova
Duncan Mighty was on a partial hiatus for quiet couple of years. Partial because h still songs in 2016 with small Doctor and 2017 with Timaya I gues before he eventually blew again through.Wizkid’s ‘Fake Love’ in May.
He’s been collaborating with stars since his return this 2018 an has got close to 20 collaborations which include features by heavyweights in the industry. Some of his big feature include: Aza with DMW, Lova Lova with Tiwa Savage, ‘Bio Bio’ with Reekado Bank, Sabi with Ceeza Milli
NO 1 Davido Run Rich by Popcaan
Which other artist has had a bigger 2018 as much as Davido.Like WizKids, he’s got very few singles 3 of them: Assurance to Nwa Baby and Aza with his members of his DMW this year so far even though he’s been carting away awards and nominations across board.
He’s been featured on a few number of tuned abroad such as : Larry Gaaga in ‘Doe’, Dremo with ‘Kpa’, ‘Way Too Fly’ by A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie and ‘Dun Rich’ by Popcaan.
CONCLUSION
Music is fun and artists featuring artist has been big and prominent as far back as the early eighties and it’s just getting started.. This year has been quite exciting for Nigerian music lovers, with collaborations playing a major role in the number of hit singles that has been released.
