Davido has made it clear that he’s more comfortable making bosses than being one.
In a tweet posted via his official account, Nigerian Pop musician and head of the DMW collective, Davido has said that he plans to open record labels for all the artistes signed to his DMW label.
Setting up record labels for all my artist ! I’d rather make bosses than be one! ❤

The pop singer wrote “Setting up record labels for all my artist! I’d rather make bosses than be one“, followed by a bright red love emoji.
With a constant slew of releases and guest spots, OBO has continued the momentum he created with the release of one of the biggest musical moments of 2017, “If”.
In that time, he has also expanded the DMW roster. In addition to Mayorkun and Dremo, 2018 has seen the introduction of producer, Fresh VDM; Peruzzi; Yonda; and a number of other affiliates.
Shuffling out of the HKN crew to start DMW indicated a desire to create a structure where he was the undisputed head honcho yet room was available to afford his proteges the limelight that comes with being associated with one of Africa’s two pop princes.
However, Davido has made it clear that he’s more comfortable making bosses than being one.
The artiste says he intends to start labels for each artiste, implying that this would let them be their own bosses.
Whether this will actually become a reality remains to be seen.
Still, it is encouraging that an artiste appears to see the potential in creating independent structures and platforms around talent in an industry where a label contract is rarely different from a death sentence.
