Former Liberty X singer Michelle Heaton has opened up about her confidence following her traumatic life-altering surgeries in 2012 and 2015.

The 40-year-old – who has two children with husband Hugh Hanley – was diagnosed with the hereditary BRCA2 cancer gene five years ago, which meant she had an 85 per cent chance of developing breast cancer and 30% chance of ovarian cancer.

Michelle’s grandmother and great-grandmother both died from cancer in their 30s, and so she made the decision to undergo a double mastectomy and hysterectomy for the sake of her family.

The mum-of-two revealed to Closer magazine that just getting dressed every day can be difficult for her following the effects of her operations and reconstructive surgeries.

She told the publication: “I feel as good as I can do in my own skin.

“I feel good in clothes, but it’s a struggle looking in the mirror.”

After having her womb and both breasts removed, Michelle admitted that her struggle to look in the mirror in mostly when she gets dressed.

She added: “When I get changed, I don’t really look. I just pass over it; it’s not out of disgust, it’s more like, ‘OK I know my scars are there, on my chest and on my tummy. let’s just get dressed as quickly as I can’.”

The Liberty X star confessed it can be ‘hard’ looking at herself but also revealed she is now strongly against the decision of going under the knife for cosmetic reasons.

The brunette beauty stated: “I wouldn’t ever have unnecessary surgery again.”

The star’s candid chat about the effects of her surgeries come after she found out she was going through the menopause early, aged just 39, compared to the average age of 51.

The mum of two first had ­symptoms three years ago – after her ovaries were removed.She opened up about her experiences with her early menopause mood swings in her tell-all book Hot Flush.

Michelle, who has been married to husband Hugh Hanley since 2010, described herself as being “such a horrible person” to him and her kids.

After writing about her experiences in her new book, Michelle said that reading back about how she had acted made her feel “ashamed”.
