Etiquette expert Edmund Fry claims the Duchess of Sussex did not have a ‘love for England’ during their first meeting
Meghan Markle took a two-hour lesson that included how to handle a cup and saucer before moving to London, an etiquette expert has claimed.
The Duchess of Sussex attended a lesson in etiquette by Edmund Fry, a Brit who runs the Rose Tree Cottage tea room in Pasadena, California.
Edmund said the younger generation does not know what bone china is and certainly do not know ‘anything about how to handle a cup and saucer, or how to handle a knife and fork’.
He told Daily Mail : “She enjoyed it so much that she wanted to come back.
“They [younger generation] come to us mainly to find out, ‘What should we do, as we are having this social event?
“The same sort of thing happened with Meghan. She knew she would be having tea with the Queen.”
He said he was asked questions such as how to hold the cup and saucer and where to put the spoon and Meghan “wanted to know the comfort of sitting”.
Edmund, a Londoner, said he felt the Duchess did not have “love for England” when they first met and that she fell in love when she went to Rose Tree Cottage.
“When they come through the door they are in England,” he said.
“You can see by my portrait of Her Majesty The Queen on the wall we are completely prepared for anybody who might come for Rose Tree Cottage.”
