Christina Ann-Thompson Harris, 36, died at her home in Davison, Michigan, on September 29, 2014.

Nearly five years later, her 44-year-old husband Jason Thomas Harris has been arrested for first-degree premeditated murder, solicitation of murder and delivery of a controlled substance causing death, ABC 12 reports.

Police reportedly obtained information that Harris had allegedly tried to hire a hit man to kill her – before allegedly feeding her the cereal which contained heroin.

Investigators believe he gave her the bowl of cereal the night before she died.

Christina’s mum said she’d seen her daughter on the evening before her death and found her in good health, reports said.

Harris allegedly told police she’d had cold symptoms and had been taking medicine to treat it.

On the morning of September 29, 2014, Harris reportedly called a neighbor and asked her to check up on his wife.

But the neighbor found Christina unresponsive in bed.

Harris’ siblings reportedly subsequently told police of statements he had made about ‘getting rid of Christina’.

Several co-workers also said they’d heard worrying statements from him, reports said.

Harris is alleged to have said he didn’t want a divorce so he wouldn’t have to deal with child custody issues and child support payments.

One co-worker claimed Harris had talked about hiring a hit man to kill his wife, according to reports.

He even allegedly asked the co-worker to carry out the killing for $5,000.

Harris is also alleged to have taken part in conversations about finding odorless and tasteless drugs.

As Christina had recently given birth, she’d been having regular blood tests – none of which showed any traces of drugs.

Breast milk which was tested also did not show traces of heroin.A medical examiner’s office had initially ruled her death as an accidental heroin overdose.

But investigators came to the conclusion she had not been a drug user and the medical examiner’s officer changed her cause of death as homicide rather than an accidental overdose.

If Harris is convicted, he faces up to life in prison.
