The Kaduna State government says 32 persons have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the disturbance of the state.

The government disclosed this in a statement after a meeting of a select committee of the State Security Council presided over by Governor Nasir el-Rufai on Saturday.

“The police reported that 32 persons have been arrested since yesterday for involvement in the disturbances. These persons will be investigated and prosecuted,” said the statement signed by the governor’s media aide.

Within the curfew areas, the government said security operatives thwarted attempts to destroy places of worship in Kawo and Hanyi Banki.

It added that it got a report that one person was killed in Kasuwan Magani and another arrested with a weapon overnight.

The Council also relaxed the curfew in Kachia, the local government area where the slain abducted traditional ruler of Atom Adara Chiefdom, Maiwada Galadima, came from.

It explained that the decision was due to the conduct of the people of Kachia who have remained peaceful while mourning the monarch.

“In recognition of this positive contribution to harmony, the Security Council has directed that the curfew in Kachia be relaxed immediately, today, Saturday, October 27, 2018.

“Residents of Kachia are free to go about their legitimate business from now till 5pm. From tomorrow, Sunday, October 28, 2018, Kachia residents are also free to move from 6am to 5pm daily,” the statement added.

The government thanked the people for their cooperation so far and advised them to continue to comply with curfew hours.

It said only persons involved with delivering essential services would be permitted free passage, warning residents that anyone found violating the curfew would be arrested and prosecuted.

The meeting which was also attended by heads of various security agencies in Kaduna was convened to review the security situation of the state.
