Wendy Asiamah Addo (born 20 February 1996), known by the stage name Wendy Shay, is a Ghanian Afropop and Afro beats singer. Wendy Shay was born to Mr & Mrs Addo in Accra, a suburb of the Greater Accra Region of Ghana.  After the death of her father, she relocated to Stuttgart, Germany with her three siblings. Wendy’s love of music grew after she lost her father when she was four years old. She attended Morning Star School and St Martin de Porres in Accra in before relocating to Stuttgart where she continued her education from grade 7 (JHS 1). She also attended a music school in Bernhausen in Germany. Wendy Shay is a trained nurse by profession, worked as a Midwife in the clinical field. She worked as a midwife until she moved to Ghana to pursue her musical dreams.

She was introduced to music by Rufftown Records Manger Bullet and signed in January 2018 after the untimely death of label mate Ebony Reigns.

Four: Uber driver

 On 1 June 2018, Wendy Shay released her debut single “Uber Driver”, produced by MOG Beatz. The song was released together with the official video the same day which garnered over 4.3M views on YouTube. The song won the award for the Music Video of the Year at the Eastern Music Awards in 2018.

Three: Wedding song

Wedding Song is a single that features Wendy Shay and Kuami Eugene. The soundtrack comes from two of the most promising young musicians in Ghana. Wendy and Kuami released the piece in 2020 under the RuffTown Records label. Since its release on 15 December 2020, it has generated over 2.1 million views on YouTube.

AWARDS AND ACCOLADES

  1. In March 2021, she was among the Top 30 Most Influential Women in Music by the 3Music Awards Women’s Brunch.
  2. In 2018, She won the award for Best New Artiste of the Year at the Ghana-Naija Show Biz Awards and Ghana Music Awards SA.
  3. The song “Uber Driver” won the award for the Music Video of the Year at the Eastern Music Awards in 2018.
  4. In 2019, she won the award for Breakthrough Act of the Year at the 3Music Awards.
  5. Also in 2019, she won the award for New Artist of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards and Discovery of the Year at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

Two: Survivor

Released on the 20th of May 2022, the official music video garnered over 4.3M views on YouTube. The song which was released through Rufftown Records and Midas Touch Inc Superstar was directed by MOG Beatz and the video directed by Ghanian Cinematographer, Prince Divlo.

One: Stevie Wonder feat. Shatta Wale

“Stevie wonder” a single by Wendy Shay featuring Shatta Wale garnered over 4.6M views on its official video on YouTube, this song was released through Rufftown Records on the 3rd of May, 2019 and directed by Yaw Skyface and produced by MOG Beatz. It surpassed her hit single “Uber Driver” making it the most listened to song by the songstress.
