From being a trained lawyer to becoming an Instagram sensation with his “Hello Bae” competition and he is also a rapper, Falz is no doubt a bundle of talent. He began his career while in secondary school after forming a group called “The School Boys” with his friend before his professional career as a music artiste began in 2009.
Falz shot into limelight after his song titled “Marry Me” (featuring vocals from Poe and Yemi Alade) won him a nomination in the “Best Collaboration of The Year” category at the 2015 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. He was also nominated in the “Best Rap Act of The Year” and “Best New Act to Watch” categories at the same event. He currently owns an independent record label called Bahd Guys Records.
Son of highly respected lawyer and activist Femi Falana, Falz was born into a family of three children. He attended St Leos Catholic Primary School, Ikeja Lagos and Olashore International Secondary School, Osun State. After studying law at the University of Reading in the United Kingdom he moved back to Nigeria to attend law school and was called to bar in February 2012.
Although like every other celebrity, there has been speculations about Falz’s love life, these speculations are still what they are; speculations. Falz is publicly single. Falz has really created a niche for himself and that has endeared him to his fans and keeps blazing the trail with his style of music.
His debut album Wazup Guy was released on 30 May, 2014 and was received critically by music critics. As a young artiste that is multi-talented, Falz has been nominated for quite a number of awards and has also won some of it. Some of it include; tooxclusive Artiste To Watch in 2014, Best Collaboration of the Year at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards 2015, 2016 Best Actor in Comedy/Series at the 2016 African Magic Viewers’ Choice Award for his role in TV series Jenifa’s diary. In June 2016, he was voted the winner of Viewers’ Choice Best New International Act at the 2016 BET Awards.
Falz describes his style of music as “Wahzup music”. It is the fusion of comic lyrics with the contemporary hip-hop in a faux Yoruba accent. On 18 November 2014, Falz was ranked #9 on notJustOk’s list of “The 10 Most Gifted Rappers In Nigeria 2014” stating that, “Falz’s ability to maintain a thought and get his point across in 16 barz while switching accents, infusing funny punchlines and delivering all of it in a way that makes the listener follow along is nothing short of impressive”
Nigerian rapper, Falz the Bad Guy has stirred some controversy after his advice to fellow singers, to stop praising Yahoo Boys, a parlance for internet fraudsters.
Falz spoke in an interview on Hip TV, that hailing the Yahoo Boys amounts to glorification of what is wrong in society and urged artists to desist from doing so for the sake of the future.
In his interview, Falz made mention of no one, but he was soon pitted against 9Ice, an older musician, with commentators divided on the merit of his advice.
