The fisherman was unable to fight off the crocodile.

Edgar said: “We were about to go home around around 8.55pm. It was really dark and raining when it happened, but we had our flashlights.

“The crocodile jumped out of the water with its mouth open. I could not do anything because our boat was damaged.

“Junick was my friend and neighbour. He was in good spirits when it happened, just laughing and talking like normal. I am shocked to have lost him in this way.”

The victim was bitten on the chest and dragged into the water through a hole in the boat.

He is believed to have died by drowning.

Edgar immediately went to the police to ask for assistance but the rescue operation was postponed until this morning due to the bad weather .

Junick’s corpse was discovered with the crocodile still swimming in the area.
