Abakaliki the Ebonyi State capital on Wednesday witnessed the heavy presence of security operatives deployed in strategic positions to maintain law and order as President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to campaign for votes.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the operatives were already at their respective positions at 7am.
They included officers from the Nigerian Army, the Police, Directorate of State Security and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
Also on the ground were officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps who were observed controlling vehicular traffic within the city and its environs.
President Buhari was in Ebonyi for the APC Presidential campaign rally, he had performed similar functions on Tuesday in Imo and Abia States.
NAN also reports that standard routes lined for the president’s visit were blocked, while vehicular movements were restricted.
According to NAN, markets within the precincts of the Township Stadium, venue of the rally were closed for business during the president’s visit.
Meanwhile, the Chairman, Ogbuoji Vanguard for Change and Good Governance, Mr Steven Nwankwor, has called for support for President Muhammadu Buhari.
Nwankwor, a campaign coordinator for the APC gubernatorial candidate in the state, said that Buhari’s administration had provided massive job opportunities, revived the railway, tackling corruption, youth’s restiveness and other social vices in the society.
Nwankwor made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria at the venue of the APC presidential rally on Wednesday in Abakaliki.
