President Muhammadu Buhari, on Thursday in Kano, directed security agencies in the country to beef up security, so as to prevent ballot-snatching and related crimes in the 2018 general elections..

Addressing 602 Assistant Superintendent of Police graduands at the passing out parade of first regular cadet course, Buhari charged them to use their acquired knowledge in modern policing to not only battle but wipe out security threats in the country.

While cautioning the officers to discharge their responsibilities in accordance with the law and international best practices, he called on them not to circumvent the rules or succumb to financial or material benefits while performing their statutory functions.

”Let me remind you that this administration has a zero tolerance level for corruption. You should shun corruption and collaborate with other security agencies to kill it, before corruption takes over Nigeria.

“Try by all means to help arrest and prosecute law violators, no matter how highly placed they in the society. It is my desire to make policing in Nigeria technology-based and professionally innovative.”

In his remarks, the Commandant of the Kano Wudil Police Academy, AIG Yakubu O. Jibiri, said the Police should not be seen to be above the law, warning that anybody found breaking the law will face the full wrath of the law.

The Minister of Interior, Abdur’rahman Dambazau, commended the President for carrying out entire reform of the Police academy across the country, urging the new cadets to utilise the practical knowledge  in the larger society.
