Chelsea hope to complete a move for Gonzalo Higuain before Wednesday’s noon deadline in order for the striker to feature against Tottenham on Thursday. The Argentine touched down in London today after Chelsea agreed a loan deal with Juventus to sign the striker for the remainder of the season. AC Milan signed off the deal on Sunday and Higuain, 31, is keen to get the deal over the line so that he can play in the second leg of Chelsea’s Carabao Cup semi-final against Spurs. The deal will include the option of purchasing Higuain for a set price in the summer, as well as a loan fee for the remainder of the campaign.

Higuain’s arrival will allow Alvaro Morata to join Atletico Madrid, ending his miserable 18-month stint at Stamford Bridge. Morata became the club’s record signing in 2017 but he failed to settle in London and Sarri was not convinced by the Spaniard.

Higuain worked with Sarri at Napoli and his arrival will allow Eden Hazard to move back to his favoured left-wing position. Nevertheless, it’s looking increasingly likely that the Belgian will leave the club this summer for Real Madrid.
