A nine-year-old girl was mauled to death by three pit bulls as she rode her bike near her home.
Emma Valentina Hernandez was taken to hospital after the horror attack in Detroit on Monday afternoon but died from her injuries.
Her dad had reportedly warned the dogs’ owner that his fence was too flimsy to hold the animals back – saying the tragedy could have been prevented.
He said they’d argued about it just last week.
The dog owner, 33, has been arrested and remains in custody, People reports.
Emma’s father Armando Hernandez said: “I feel so empty, I don’t know what to do, I’m really heartbroken right now.”
He added: “I tried my best. I tried CPR, I tried helping her. I couldn’t do it.
“I did everything I could in my power to just – she was gone. She was gone when I reached her.”
Police reportedly said an onlooker shot and killed one of the dogs to try and stop the attack.
Another man said he grabbed a brick and threw it at one of the dogs
Mr Hernandez said he had previously complained to police about the “wild” dogs.
Police are investigating.
