Determined to curb criminality, Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, yesterday, suspended the activities of the Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Riders Association of Nigeria, ACOMORAN, the umbrella body of Okada riders in the state. Criminal activities have been traced to some members of the union across the state in recent time.
Vanguard gathered that many students have been kidnapped and slaughtered by ritualists after such victims engage the services of Okada riders in many towns of the state on their way to or from school. Even cult members using Okada recently engaged in a cult war in Akure, the state capital. Not fewer than 10 persons were killed by rival cult groups fighting over supremacy in the state capital recently.
In what looked like a relief, the state government yesterday wielded the big stick by suspending the activities of the union. A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Segun Ajiboye, in Akure said; “The executive body of the association in the state is dissolved with immediate effect. “The suspension of the activities of the association follows several complaints of illegal activities levelled against the body. “Governor Akeredolu asks all commercial motorcycle riders in the state to comply with this directive and maintain the peace.’’ Ajiboye added that “The office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Special Duties & Strategy is to take over the running of the activities of the association in the interim.
