Real Madrid were heavy odds-on favourites to beat tiny Girona, the club owned by Manchester City who are in their first season in the top-flight, at the Montilivi stadium, and certainly so when Isco put them into a 12th minute lead.
But astonishingly, second half goals from former Middlesbrough forward Cristhian Stuani and Cristian Portu turned the tables in Girona’s favour, and they stunned Zinedine Zidane’s men as they inflicted a second La Liga defeat of the season upon them. The 2-1 loss leaves Real eight points behind leaders and rivals Barcelona, while also four behind second place Valencia. Zidane’s men sit third on 20 points, and fans believe there’s no way back from here.
