Louisa, who plays Maya Stepney in the ITV soap, said she’d been evacuated from the theatre 30 minutes into the play
Emmerdale star Louisa Clein has revealed how she had a lucky escape when the ceiling collapsed in the Piccadilly Theatre in London last night.
Louisa, who plays villain Maya Stepney in the ITV soap, said she’d been evacuated from the theatre 30 minutes into the production of Death Of a Salesman
Audience members suffered head injuries after falling masonry crashed down onto the auditorium shortly before 8pm on Wednesday night.
The soap star, 40, called the incident “terrifying” when she took to Twitter shortly after the audience evacuation.
She tweeted: “Evacuated from the #piccadillytheatre 30 mins into #DeathOfASalesman. Terrifying moment.
“Sounds like the roof came down…”
She later reassured her Twitter followers that both she and her mum were unharmed after the accident.
Louisa added: “Just to say…. my mum and I are fine. The first half hour was utterly mesmerising.
“Really hope I get to see the rest at some point! #DeathOfASalesman #piccadillytheatre.”
This morning it was confirmed tonight’s performance will be cancelled as they “ascertained the damage”.
The Metropolitan Police said a “few” people had suffered minor injuries and that emergency services remained on scene. Later reports said four were injured.
Eyewitness Martin George, 41, who was sitting in the Grand Circle, said: “About 10 minutes into the performance you could hear this slight dripping sound in the [Grand] circle and people were looking around, wondering what was happening, but the play carried on.
“Then, as we stood up, this huge chunk of ceiling, about three to four metres across, crashed down.
“There were people screaming at that point and everyone got up and streamed down the stairs.”
