Heads of public primary and secondary schools in Ekiti State who collected unauthorised levies at the beginning of the 2018/2019 academic year have been ordered to refund the pupils. Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Chief Bisi Egbeyemi, said school heads who collected and remitted such levies to government coffers should bring evidence of such remittances to the Ministry of Education for verification and onward refund.
Egbeyemi, in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Odunayo Ogunmola, on Tuesday, ordered full compliance with the directive by the headteachers. Egbeyemi said the action was consequent upon the Executive Order 001 signed by Governor Kayode Fayemi on October 24, 2018, abolishing payment of Education Development Levy and other unauthorised fees in the state.
The statement, however, stated that the refund order “does not preclude voluntary donations, contributions from philanthropic bodies, Parent-Teacher Associations and School-Based Management Committees made towards the improvement of education standards in schools across the state”.
