A man who was in court to face trial over a criminal charge has tried to stage a dramatic escape from the courtroom.

A Utah man ran out of a courtroom and dove off of a balcony in an attempt to escape law enforcement.
Stunning security footage from the courthouse in Spanish Fork shows 35-year-old Christopher Clay Rudd darting out of the room in handcuffs and flipping over a second-floor railing before slamming into the floor below.
Rudd had reportedly been arrested on drug allegations and was in court on Monday for failing to attend court-ordered rehab.
In the video released Thursday Rudd can be seen standing up in the courtroom and running toward the door as a bailiff takes off after him.
Outside the courtroom he can be seen leaping over the railing.

He hits the floor right in front of two other bailiffs, one of whom appears to have tried to break his fall.
Surrounded by blood spatter from a head wound, Rudd appears to wince in pain as the bailiffs hold him down.
A spokesman for the court Geoffrey Fattah said Rudd broke his leg and pelvis and fractured his skull.

It is unclear whether Rudd was trying to injure himself intentionally, police spokesman Matt Johnson said.
On April 26 Rudd was arrested for theft, possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person and drug-related charges, according to officials.
He could face additional charges for trying to escape.
