Real Madrid and Croatian footballer, Luka Modric is the world player of the year, bringing an end to Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi’s decade of dominance to an end.
At the FIFA Best awards at London’s Royal Festival Hall, Modric beat fellow finalists Cristiano Ronaldo and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah following his impressive performance for Real Madrid and Croatia in 2018.
Modric won the Champions League with Real Madrid and also led his county to the final of the World Cup in Russia, where they lost to France.
It was an unbelievable season, the best season in my life,’ said Modric, 33. ‘I’m very proud of everything I achieved this year. It will be remembered, for sure, forever.’
