American rapper, singer, songwriter and record producer ‘T-Pain’ graces our Artiste of The Week Segment

Faheem Rasheed Najm (born September 30, 1984), better known by his stage name T-Pain, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter and record producer. Najm was born and raised in Tallahassee, Florida to parents Aliyah, a Bahamian chef, and Shasheem, who founded the Homeboyz to Men program. One thing you didn’t know is his stage name; T-Pain is short for “Tallahassee Pain”, and was chosen because of the hardships he experienced while living there.

 

Four: Best love song feat. Chris Brown

This song garnered over 52 million views on YouTube. The song features Chris Brown and was released as the first official single from his fourth studio album, RevolveЯ, on March 22, 2011. The song was featured in the pilot of The CW TV series Hart of Dixie,peaked at number 33 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and US mainstream Top 40. It was also certified Gold by the ARIA in Australia.

 

FYI: If you didn’t know, throughout his career as a singer, T-Pain popularized the creative use of the Auto-tune pitch correction and the success with the effect marked a big influence on several artists to adopt it as well, like; Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Travis Scott among others. T-Pain was signed to Akon’s Konvict Muzik after which he founded his own label, Nappy Boy Entertainment in 2015.

Garnered 83m views on its official video which was released 10 years ago. It was released as a single on June 7, 2011, and originally served as the second single off T-Pain’s fourth studio album RevolveЯ. However, the song was later excluded from the album’s track listing but was later included on T-Pain Presents Happy Hour: The Greatest Hits. The song was produced by You g Fyre.

 

Controversies

  • On April 28, 2007, T-Pain refused to shorten his performance at Radio One’s  Spring Fest Concert in Miami, which caused police presence to escalate backstage. He became agitated after concert officials stopped his performance of “Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin’)”. Police chased him and his entourage out of the premises and detained them.
  • In June 2007, a warrant was issued for T-Pain’s arrest for driving with a suspended license. He subsequently turned himself in to the Leon County Jail on November 2, 2007. He was held without bail but was released three hours later.

This song by Florida featuring T-Pain garnered over 150 million views. The song was released on the 9th of October, 2007 and was featured in the movie step up 2 the streets and is also used a sound in the famous app tiktok. The song topped the charts, holding the number one spot in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand and many more.

Garnered over 217m views on its official video It was released on February 20, 2007 as the leas single from his second studio album, Epiphany. The song, produced by T-Pain himself, features a guest verse from American rapper Young Joc. The song was certified 3x Platinum by the RIAA and was certified Gold In United States by the BPI.

The song won a Grammy award for Best R&B Performance by Duo or Group with Vocals, and in 2009, BET Awards for Best Collaboration (“Blame It”) with Jamie Foxx.
