Adam Lallana will not receive a Liverpool first-team ban after being sent off for the Under-23s on Monday, Sky Sports News understands.
Lallana reacted angrily after an aerial clash with 19-year-old Spurs midfielder George Marsh and was shown a straight red card for grabbing Marsh around the neck, before being dragged away by team-mate Danny Ings.
But we understand that any punishment Lallana receives will be confined to the competition in which he was dismissed, so he will not face any suspension for Liverpool’s senior team.
However, an U23s ban – likely to be three games for violent conduct – could still hamper Lallana’s recovery, as he battles for full fitness.
Liverpool U23 manager Neil Critchley said: “I have never seen Adam react like that.
“I’d like to see the incident again. It was ironic as we were just about to bring Liam Millar on. He was actually coming off.”
The England international has started just one senior game for Liverpool this season, after a thigh problem in pre-season, and a groin injury when he returned to action in November.
