A poultry farmer in Edo State has been left devastated after losing thousands of his birds to serious flooding.

An early mourning downpour which lasted for several hours, yesterday, in Benin City, Edo State, killed over 8,000 birds at a poultry farm in Igiede street off Erediauwa Street.
According to reports, the owner of the poultry had to sell the dead birds for N500. Erediauwa Street is a link road between Upper Sokponba and Sapele road.
The road has been in bad shape until the recent construction of the road which the people now blame for their woes. A retired soldier, Sergeant Solomon Erhabor, who wept profusely said the house he just lost to the flood was his only benefit from the Nigerian Army.
Erhabor said the construction of the road and the poor side drains caused the flood to enter adjoining streets. He said the contractor was supposed to channel the flood to a nearby moat but refused to do so to avoid payment of compensation.
Report has it that, over 25 building submerged and 152 persons rendered homeless.
