Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers on Monday said the National Youth Service Corps  Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development  programmes were crucial to ensuring  financial independence after  national service.

Wike stated this at the closing ceremony of the 2018 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Nonwa-Gbam, Tai Local Government Area of Rivers.

Wike, represented by Chief Kenneth Kobani, the Secretary to Rivers Government, urged the corps members to take the skills they had acquired seriously. He commended the corps members for their positive disposition and good conduct during the orientation course, saying these would instil  discipline in them.

The governor also  advised the corps members to strive to sustain  their total commitment and honesty of purpose in the build-up and actual process of  the 2019 polls.

Earlier, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr Chukwu Chiwendu, stated that  the corps members were trained to acquire  12 skills in the camp.

“They acquired skills in various areas like ICT, Agro-allied business, bead making, pastries and catering amongst others.

“We have opened extra-ordinary window for these corps members to utilise their skills and become entrepreneurs in the race for scarce white collar jobs,” he said.
