As a follow up to the video that broke the internet recently where the Police IG Idris’ was having difficulties in reading his speech, see video (IGP Video), there have been reports that the IGP is actually dyslexic.
See tweet below:
If this video is genuine, I’ve been advised the IG may be dyslexic. If that is the case, it is no laughing matter, and not something he should be ridiculed for. A lot of kids are dyslexic. We must ensure that they are not bullied or stigmatised. They too can become IG of Police. https://t.co/eqlvEopZ6Z

He has been making several speeches and he has a good command of English language, he is a Lawyer moreso.
Dyslexia becomes worse as you grow in Age and his case is no different! We are too quick to judge in Nigeria— Mina Atambi (@atambi_thankgod) May 17, 2018
Reactions:
I think this statement is really unfair and puts dyslexia in a position of being stupid which in turn reinforces what you are trying to challenge. This is really a sad tweet

Clearly , the note that was read had too many repitition of words and incorrect sentences which has nothing to do with dyslexia, so attributing his/thier mistake to dyslexia does more harm than good. My opinion.

There’s nothing like dyslexia here sir, there are too many illiterates in leadership positions in this country, this is just a case of one. No wonder some of these Public office holders don’t give room for interviews. Nothing surprises me anymore ?

If that video was doctored by now the police should have released their own video after all they too went with their own media team. Don’t forget they have released the senate letter inviting the IGP.

That isn’t dyslexia … don’t help them pull sympathy. There are multiple ways and strategies dyslexic people use in ready and oratory and a man in his position shouldn’t be unaware of them if he got there genuinely

What you see there is the IG lacks comprehension or is just seeing the speech for the first time. The most a chronic dyslexic person would do is miss a line or skip words … not this one that he cannot put a single sentence together …

I am dyslexic and battled to overcome it in my teen and have found ways to mitigate and concentrate when need be

When Zuma use to make a mess of some speeches was he also dyslexic? There is another video circulating – probably from the IG where he reads another speech well – dyslexia does not switch on and off. The man is just poor with English, same with EFCC guy.

This is not about being poor with English. He can apparently pronounce the words right. There is something awfully wrong going on. He’s going over the same lines.

I agree dyslexia is no laughing matter. But in this case, for someone at his level, if he is truly dyslexic he would be aware of it by now and it’s his responsibility to have coping mechanisms to perform well in his job, e.g. opt for giving short but meaningful speeches by heart

Nigerians though!
