Afrobeat singer Ruger charts our AOTW

Michael Adebayo Olayinka was born on 23 September 1999 in Lagos, where he was also raised. He is originally from Ijumu Local Government Area in Kogi State, Nigeria. Olayinka was discovered by D’Prince, who gave him the name Ruger. He rose to fame with the release of his song Bounce, which led him to sign a recording deal with Jonzing World, in 2021. That same year, he released his debut extended play, Pandemic. In April 2024, Ruger and Bnxn released the collaborative mixtape RnB. The mixtape lead single, Romeo Must Die, debuted at number 11 on the Billboard Afrobeat chart. He exited Jonzing World in 2024 to start his own imprint, called Blown Boy Entertainment.

Bounce is one of the hit track off his 2021 iconic body of the work Pandemic which contains 6 tracks, with no single featured artist. It was released on the 12th of March 2021 and has garnered 80M views on it official music video on YouTube. This song was written by kukbeats, Rema and Ruger.

Serving as Ruger most recent release is Luv Again. It is included on his recently released two-track playlist, “Make Way” and “Luv Again.” It also acts as a sequel to his seven-track “RnB EP” project, which he previously published with BNXN. It was released on the 5th of June 2024. It was produced by Kukbeats and Cole yourstruly.
