Burkina Faso has recorded its first death to Coronavirus Covid-19 on Wednesday (March 18) as Rose Marie Compaoré, the Vice President of parliament.
Burkina Faso confirmed cases of Coronavirus as at Wednesday (March 18) is at 27 with over 231 contacts being monitored and its first death recorded, the Vice President of parliament, Rose Marie Compaoré.
Rose Marie Compaoré is said to have been diabetic, aged 62 years.
According to reports, the confirmed cases are in two cities, Ouagadougou and Bobo Dioulasso.
Other African countries that have reported fatalities include Egypt, Morocco, Algeria and Sudan.
“This tragic event calls us all to recognise the scale and seriousness of the problem which confronts us all,” said Martial Ouedraogo, Burkina Faso’s COVID-19 response coordinator.
“This is a very contagious illness that is potentially fatal and that for now has no treatment aside from prevention,” he stressed.
