A hero teenager was killed saving his five-year-old sister when a violent burglar broke into their home.
Brave Khyler Edman, 15, has been described as “his sister’s keeper” by his devastated family.
The youngster, from Port Charlotte in Florida, died during a violent struggle at his home.
Suspect Ryan Cole, 27, was arrested nearby with injuries to his hands.
In an online obituary to the tragic teenager, his family wrote: “Khyler will always hold the title of an awesome big brother to his siblings, especially his sister.
“He was kind, caring, loving, and will be missed by many.”
His body was discovered by cops when they noticed the home had been broken into as they apprehended a suspicious man who was acting eraticaly.
Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell said: “A violent encounter ensued where we believe that the teenager was trying to protect the home and protect their younger sibling.
“Like I said, a violent encounter ensued and the teenager had succumbed to their injuries.”
The sheriff said Cole has a history of drug abuse, and BuzzFeed reports that he has been arrested more than 20 times since 2011.

“He was kind, caring, loving, and will be missed by many.”A GoFundMe appeal to raise cash for Khyler’s family said: “On September 26th Khyler lost his life being a hero protecting his 5 year old sister, when a man broke in our home in Port Charlotte.
“Please help my family at this time give Khyler a proper burial he deserves, he was only 15 years old and lost his life due to a senseless act of a stranger.
“My son had a long life ahead of him, that was taken too soon.”
