Asan N’jie has been sacked from Emmerdale after making threats to kill Hollyoaks star Jamie Lomas at the TV Choice Awards.

Asan has been spectacularly fired from the ITV soap after the broadcaster launched an investigation into his behaviour on the night of Monday September 9.

An ITV spokesman told Mirror Online: “Emmerdale suspended Asan N’Jie yesterday pending further investigation into an incident at a central London hotel on Monday night.

“ITV executives have met with him this morning and as a consequence Asan’s contract has been terminated with immediate effect.”

Asan himself said in a grovelling statement: “My behavior at the TV Choice Awards was completely unacceptable and very much out of character.

“I sincerely apologise to everybody who has been affected especially Jamie Lomas, the whole Emmerdale team, our audience, ITV, my family, and the organizers of the TV Choice Awards.

“I am devastated, accept full responsibility for my actions and I am determined to learn from this.”

Asan had first joined the soap in September 2018 as Ellis Chapman, the son of Jessie Grant.

His character was involved in a hard-hitting knife crime storyline, which saw him nominated for Best Newcomer at the TV Choice Awards – a gong he lost out to EastEnders’ Kara-Leah Fernandes hours before the brawl.

Ellis was left fighting for his life after being stabbed in the back during a night out.

“I’m extremely grateful to the writers and the producers at Emmerdale for trusting me with this,” Asan had said at the time.

“They’ve put their faith in me to be able to deliver this storyline. To share it with Jay has been fun and really interesting.

“It’s been tough too, because we’ve had quite a few night shoots. But it’s been really fun, a different experience and a new challenge for me especially.”

Asked previously how he felt about the show’s gritty violent plotline, N’Jie added: “I’m glad we’re exploring it. Especially in London, the knife crime rate is through the roof at the minute.

“So to explore a sensitive issue like this can only be a positive thing. If we put light onto these issues, hopefully the quicker it will stop.”

Asan previously appeared in Waterloo Road, Casualty, Holby City, Doctors and Mount Pleasant.

He also had an unnamed roe in Steven Spielberg’s 2018 film Ready Player One, and played a hotel waiter in 2017’s Murder On The Orient Express.
