Woman Gets Fined By Police For Running Out Of Petrol On A Busy Motorway With

A mother has been fined by police after she ran out of petrol on a busy motorway. Her children sat in the back were left “hysterical with fear” after the car rolled to a stop on the M1 in Derbyshire, police said.

There were two near misses as the car sat still in an active lane at 5.30am on Thursday. There was no hard shoulder.

Derbyshire Roads Police tweeted: “M1. 5.30am runs out of fuel with family in vehicle. Two near misses in the live lane & kids hysterical with fear. Unacceptable.” The woman had reportedly only just passed the Tibshelf service station before running out of petrol. She was fined for driving without due care and attention.
