Commuters feared dead as NNPC tanker spills content leading to fire

Commuters are feared dead after an NNPC tanker spilt its contents at Oke Afa in Isolo, Lagos, leaving many cars engulfed in flames.

 

After the tanker reportedly fell at the Oke Afa bridge yesterday at about 5pm and spilt its content, action taken to avert a tragedy was not adewyate.

 

The fire engulfed this morning at around 6:30 from the highly inflammable substance that spilled onto the road from the tanker.

 

The number of casualties at the moment as not been acertained but social media users report that at least one person died in the fire. Videos from the scene show a man running from the fire with his burnt clothes sticking to his skin.

 

Twitter users had alerted authorities on socual media after the tanker fell on Monday evening. They urged authirities to move to the scene because a disaster was waiting to happen as they saw the contents of the tanker spilled onto the road.

According to reports, the incident happened on Old Lagos expressway roundabout at New Garage, when a truckload of sand crushed two tricycles popularly called as Keke Marwa.
