Atletico Madrid coach Simeone: Playing Costa and Koke took b***s

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone was delighted with their 2-0 Champions League win over Juventus.

El Cholo surprised many by playing both Koke and Diego Costa, who were returning from injury.

“I felt that playing Costa and Koke after a month and a half had to take b***s,” he said of his celebration afterwards.

Despite an impressive return, Costa was withdrawn for Alvaro Morata at 0-0 and the ex-Juventus forward also did well after his introduction.

“I told them both that Costa wouldn’t play the 90,” he revealed.

“I spoke with them in the morning so they knew what I needed from them both and they gave it to me.

“It’s a pity that Costa’s chance got away from him and Morata’s goal was disallowed by VAR.”

As ever, Simeone was keen to remind everyone in attendance at the press conference of his side’s style and philosophy.

“I feel very good for the players,” he said.

“They represent what it is to be Atletico. I’m happy because beyond winning or losing we play a way that won’t change.

“We will try to grow and improve, but this is our style, or form and our way.”
