Arsenal are reportedly targeting Cagliari midfielder Nicola Barella as a long-term replacement for imminent free agent Aaron Ramsey.
The Welshman will leave Arsenal at the end of the season upon the expiration of his current contract.
According to reports in Italy – via the Daily Star – the Gunners are keen on signing the talented 21-year-old, who has been compared to Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.
It won’t be easy for Arsenal however, with a number of clubs vying for Barella’s signature.
Manchester United, Napoli and Inter Milan have all scouted the Italian this season.
Barella recently professed his desire to one day play in the Premier League, stating: “If I had to choose between the Serie A and the Premier League, I would go for England because I love the way they approach the game.”
