A British man has been arrested after being accused of attempting to smuggle a huge haul of drugs into Bali.

Computer analyst Adam Scott, 48, was held at Bali’s Ngurah Rai airport when he was found with 655 Diazepam tablets, according to Indonesian custom officials.

Ngurah Rai Customs and Excise Office head Himawan Indarjono told a press conference on Thursday that customs officers grew suspicious of Scott after scanning his belongings during an X-ray security check at the customs desk of the airport’s international terminal.

Scott did show a prescription but that was just for 42 pills of the opioid, which is similar to valium

Himawan said: “Therefore, our customs officers later decided to take him to their office to further look through his belongings.

“We found a plastic bottle containing 655 diazepam pills without any customs declaration.”

German man Siegfreid Karl Achim Ruckel, 56, was arrested as part of a similar investigation on January 26, according to reports.

Customs officers reportedly seized 7.91 grams of heroin, 2.57 grams of amphetamine and 30 pills of Diazepam from the suspect. Ruckel allegedly hid the drugs inside his belongings, reports the Jakarta Post.

They were both put on display at a press conference wearing black balaclavas.

Drug traffickers in Indonesia can receive the death penalty.
