Police Rescue kidnapped Anambra LG Chairman, Son In Imo

The Imo State Police Command has rescued the kidnapped Chairman of Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, Ifeanyi Odimegwu.

Also rescued in Imo State were his son, Tochi Odimegwu, and personal driver, Boniface Uche, who were kidnapped with him.

The Imo State Commissioner of Police, Dasuki Galadanchi, who disclosed this in Owerri, said the local government area boss was abducted along the Owerri-Port Harcourt Expressway in the early hours of Sunday.

Galadanchi said the abduction occurred at the Umuapu axis of the expressway while the LGA boss, his son and driver were returning to Owerri after a church programme in Rivers State.

He said, “The LGA boss was kidnapped while returning from Elele in Rivers State after an all night church service. He was kidnapped alongside his driver, Boniface Uche, and his son, Tochi at Umuapu nipping point. On hearing gunshots, policemen on duty swiftly swung into action.

“On getting to the scene, the police operatives gave the hoodlums a hot chase leading to the rescue of the son of the LGA boss and his driver. Some eyewitnesses mobilised by my men and assisted by members of vigilante group at Ihie and Obrugo communities moved into Umuapu thick forest.”

The commissioner said the kidnappers had on sighting policemen abandoned the LGA chairman in the forest and ran away with his bag containing money, phones and important documents.

He said the chairman, who was every shocked, requested to be taken to the hospital.

Galadanchi disclosed that the statements obtained from the kidnapped victims were still being analysed by the detectives of the command to ascertain the cause of the abduction.
