Have you ever observed your hand(s) shake sometimes either when writing or shaving, lacing up your shoes or when you are engaged in some simple tasks basically? Shaky hands is felt when holding a piece of paper in your hands: it will flutter very slightly. Sometimes when this happens while in the midst of your friends, they might make a fun of you saying: Guy! you don dey touch the untouchables! Some would even conclude you’ve been using your hands to park dirts. That’s all fun! On the flip side some may find this embarrassing or annoying. Hand tremors can be the result of many different causes. It can be a symptom of different medical conditions, aging or anxiety.
Shaky hands is the most common neurologic disorder that affects adults. It is a symptom of what is technically known as a tremor and it is said to be entirely normal. It could happen as a result of stress, fatigue, caffeine and temperature extremes (cold etc) as well as through other causes such as anxiety and seizures. There are different degrees of tremor. The tremor that affects the hands, the head, voice, arms or legs are generally called Essential Tremor. So, don’t be confused if your doctor calls your hand tremor or shaky hands Essential Tremor because it take places when you move.
It is not life-threatening, but it can get more severe over time and gradually gets worse over time. This is why some people associate it with Parkinson’s Disease (a progressive neurological disorder that affects movement) but not everyone who gets shaky has this disease because hand tremors/essential tremor it’s usually milder. However, you should find out why your hands shakes: is it stress, anger, alcohol or caffeine and how to stop it from getting worse. There are many different methods to stop your hands from shaking medically and naturally at the very early stage.
- Remove caffeine and other stimulants from your diet: Not everyone with shaky hands needs treatment, sometimes it could be as a result of what you eat or consume. Be sure to remove caffeine, alcohol, or other stimulants from your diet if they cause you hand tremors and if your tremor is a side effect of medication, speak with your doctor on how to go about it.
- Practice Relaxation Techniques:. Always relax and reduce stress and tension in your life, as much as you can. Stress, anxiety and nervousness are a common cause of shaky hands. There are many forms of relaxation techniques, such as meditation, yoga, and breathing. They greatly benefit your nervous system and induce relaxation.
- Get enough sleep: Sleepless nights and fatigue can also contribute to hand tremor and trembling.
- Quit Smoking: Too much nicotine can cause shaky hands, or worsen and increase even more the existing hand tremor. So, if you want to stop your hands from shaking, you should definitely quit smoking.
