The Nigerian Air Force said on Thursday that it would provide transport aircraft to the Independent National Electoral Commission for the movement of election materials and other logistics nationwide.
The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, stated this in Abuja during the quarterly conference with senior officers and men of the air force, noting that all personnel must not be involved in partisan politics as the 2019 general elections neared.
Abubakar said the aim of the conference was “to review the progress attained in the air force since the last quarter as well as critically assess the performance of the service in the past few months.”
The air chief said the military would also continue to work towards ensuring that the sovereignty of Nigeria was not undermined by any group or individuals.
Abubakar said, “I remind the senior officers that the 2019 general elections are fast approaching and, therefore, caution them not to allow themselves to be dragged into partisan politics. I implore the officers to stay focused on the discharge of the constitutionally assigned tasks of the air force.
“The air force is willing to avail INEC its transport aircraft for the expeditious distribution of electoral materials, as it had done in the past, should INEC require such services.
“The aim of the conference is to review the progress attained since the last conference. The conference equally provides an avenue to get feedback from various field commanders while also keeping them abreast of the policy direction of the NAF headquarters.”
